Pennsylvania Eight Are Great @ GABF 2015

8 Breweries from Across the Commonwealth Bring Home 8 Medals

(HARRISBURG PA) Pennsylvania breweries were awarded 8 medals, including 1 gold medal, 4 silver and 3 bronze, at the 34th Annual Great American Beer Festival (GABF) Competition, held this past weekend in Denver, Colorado.

The festival awarded 275 medals to brews and breweries from across the country in the “largest commercial beer competition in the world,” according to a Brewers Association written release.

A record 6,647 beers were judged in 92 categories by 242 judges. 1,552 total breweries in the competition from all 50 states, plus Washington, D.C. Over 60,000 attendees enjoyed over 3,800 beers poured in the festival hall.

Medal distinctions are as follows:

GOLD: A world-class beer that accurately exemplifies the specified style, displaying the proper balance of taste, aroma and appearance.

SILVER: An excellent beer that may vary slightly from style parameters while maintaining close adherence to the style and displaying excellent taste, aroma and appearance.

BRONZE: A fine example of the style that may vary slightly from style parameters and/or have minor deviations in taste, aroma or appearance.

The brewing industry has a long history in Pennsylvania, which currently ranks seventh in the nation for the number of craft breweries and second in the nation for the number of barrels of craft beer produced annually.
