About Us
Cooney Brothers, Inc. was founded by brothers Francis and James Cooney in 1937. The company began as a piping and plumbing wholesaler, supplying the food manufacturing plants and various mills scattered throughout North Philadelphia. The customer base expanded rapidly, as Cooney Brothers began serving customers in New Jersey, Delaware, and throughout Eastern Pennsylvania. After James Cooney passed away in 1966, and Francis died in 1973, Francis’ son, Bill, took over the business.
In the 1970s, Cooney Brothers began developing a new base of business within the pharmaceutical industry. In the early 1980s, inspired by the success of its in-house metal hose fabrication shop, Cooney Brothers developed a manufacturing arm that would further distinguish the company from its distribution peers. The Cooney Hose Station product line was introduced, and the operation has since expanded to service markets throughout North and South America, and beyond.
At the same time, Cooney Brothers further expanded its manufacturing operations with the introduction of a fitting, valve and pipe nipple "accessory packaging department," which custom packages accessory kits and produces piping sub-assemblies for large Original Equipment Manufacturers. The manufacturing division has since been launched as its own entity, Cooney Manufacturing Co., LLC.
In 1992, Bill Cooney passed away, and three of his children have continued to grow the business: Marion Cooney, President; Gerry Cooney, Vice President, Sales; and Bill Cooney, Inside Sales Manager.
Due to steady growth in all areas of the company, Cooney Brothers relocated in 1996 to a larger, more modern facility in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. The company employs a growing team of skilled, dedicated people, some of whom have been with the company since the days of James and Francis, and have helped the company flourish through three generations.
